Gay Social Club members together at an event

FAQ

Questions,answered.

Everything worth knowing before you join - how the nights run, how you meet your host, and how membership works in your city.

The basics

Turning upon your own

Gay Social Club members together at an event
Do I need to bring a friend?
No - and that's the point. Almost everyone arrives on their own, especially for their first few events. Your host handles the introductions, so nobody is left standing in a corner.
Who is the club for?
LGBTQIA+ adults who want a real social life in their city. Most events are open to all members, and we also run gender specific nights, events for more mature members, and events aimed at younger queers.
I'm nervous about my first event. What actually happens?
You RSVP, we email you the meeting point and an introduction to your host with their photo, and you walk in knowing exactly who to look for. Your host brings you into the group and does the introductions for you.
Do I have to attend everything?
Not at all. Come to something every week, come once a month, or skip a whole season. There's no attendance target and no guilt for sitting one out.

Your host

How do I find my host on the night?
Before the event our central team emails you an introduction to your host, including their photo and exactly where to go. When your host arrives they also post in the club's WhatsApp group with where they're sitting or standing, so you can spot them straight away.
What do hosts actually do?
They plan the night, book the venue, arrive early, greet every member by name, and keep the conversation moving so groups don't close off. They are members too, not staff working a shift.
Is there a group chat?
Yes. Every club has a WhatsApp group for members, used for event logistics, host updates on the night, and the usual after-event chatter.

Events

Real plans,not forced mingling

What kind of events are there?
Drag bingo, queer trivia, group dinners, nights out, hikes, rock climbing, book club, pub crawls, beach days, brunches, karaoke and game nights. Every event has a plan, so there's always something to do and talk about.
How often do events run?
Every club runs a full calendar across the week - weeknights and weekends - so there's always something that fits around work.
Are events accessible?
We choose venues with accessibility in mind and list what we know on each event page. Tell us your access needs when you join and your host will plan around them.
Do I have to drink?
No. Plenty of members don't drink, and a good chunk of the calendar is daytime and activity based rather than bar based.

Membership

Simple pricing,cancel anytime

How much does membership cost?
One monthly membership, billed in the local currency of the club you join. The exact price for each city is shown on that club's page and on our membership page. No joining fee and no minimum term.
Which currency am I charged in?
The currency of your club's city - Auckland members are billed in NZD, Australian clubs in AUD, UK clubs in GBP. What you see on the page is what your card is charged.
Can I cancel?
Anytime, straight from your account. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for and you won't be billed again.
Is my membership city specific?
Yes. Each club runs its own calendar, hosts and pricing. If you move cities, get in touch and we'll transfer you across.

RSVPs

Booking a spotand changing it

How do I RSVP?
From your account. Every event on your club's calendar has a spot count, and you claim yours in a couple of taps.
How do I change my RSVP?
In your account, on the event itself, before the cut-off. Emailing us or telling your host on the day doesn't remove the RSVP - you need to change it yourself.
What happens if I RSVP and don't turn up?
When you RSVP we hold a spot for you and often pay a venue for it. If plans change, just update your RSVP before the cut-off and there's nothing to worry about.
